Comeback falls short against No. 5 Orono

The New Prague Trojan girls basketball team fell behind early against Orono (No. 5 Class AAA), and a frantic rally late in the game came up short as the Spartans defeated the Trojans 68-63 Friday, Oct. 10.

New Prague had trouble stopping Orono’s offense in the first half, as the Spartans scored 42 points and led by 17 at halftime.

The Spartans maintained that lead most of the second half, but the Trojans put on a late surge, forcing turnovers and converting them into fast break points. The Trojans pulled to within three points twice in the final minutes, but weren’t able to overtake the Spartans, who made 10 of 10 free throws as they iced the game.

The Trojans were led by Keegan Mulvihill, who had 17 points. Her defense triggered several turnoers and helped the Trojans get back in the game. McKenzie Holgate scored 15 points for the Trojans, while Emily Russo added 10. Also scoring for the Trojans were Emily Schmitz, Taylor Hustad and Sally Traxler, each with six points.

What made the Trojans’ comeback even more impressive in the final....
