Community Thanksgiving Service set for Nov. 23

New Prague’s seventh annual Community Thanksgiving Service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, at the New Prague Primary School gym. The event allows clergy and residents of all faiths to come together and offer thanks for the past year.

Pastor Steve O’Dell of New Prague Alliance Church will open the service with a greeting. Pastors Don Turnwall of Spirit of Life Church and Steve Trewartha of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will give the Litany of Thanksgiving.

New this year is a Children’s Choir, which will be singing during the service.

Giving the gospel reading will be Deacon Len Shambour of St. Wenceslaus Church, with a message given by Nicole Schmidt, chaplain at Queen of Peace Hospital.

As part of the offering this year, those attending are asked to write down one thing they are thankful for on a post-it-note. People can then place the notes on thank you cards that will be displayed in the windows of the New Prague Chamber of Commerce office on Main Street during the Thanksgiving weekend.

Pastor Paula Ziems of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church will give the closing prayer.

Those attending are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the Peace Center in New Prague. Refreshments and fellowship will follow the service.

The event is sponsored by the New Prague Ministerial Association. Those involved in organizing and participating in the service include Heritage United Methodist Church, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, New Prague Alliance Church, Queen of Peace Hospital, St. Patrick’s/St. Catherine Catholic Churches, St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and Spirit of Life Church.
