Council appoints Daleiden to finish Duban's term on council

After interviewing seven applicants, it all came down to the regular meeting of the Lonsdale City Council Thursday, Sept. 25, when the council decided who would finish out Fritz Duban's term.

Duban announced his resignation from the council in August, stating it was time for younger residents to step up and serve.

Mayor Tim Rud said all candidates were highly regarded and that choosing one was going to be extremely difficult. He thanked Duban for his many years of dedication.

The appointment process involved Rud and council members Kevin Kodada, Blaine Smith and Cindy Furrer privately writing the names of the three applicants they felt were the most qualified, and then assigning each a ranking. Each applicant's ranking numbers were added up, with the name garnering the fewest points dropped from the list for the next round. After three rounds, the intense anticipation ended with applicant Joe Daleiden being appointed to fill the position through December, 2009.

Daleiden brings experience to the position. He has served on the city's planning and zoning board, is a member of his church board and the Jaycees. He was also on the Rice County committee for industrial development on the Hwy. 19 corridor.

He will be sworn in at the Oct. 9 council meeting.

Assisted living/library complex moves forward

After hearing the main points of the proposed developers agreement between the City of Lonsdale and Lonsdale Senior Housing, LLC, the council approved the agreement that will allow construction of the 56-unit assisted living facility.

A separate lease agreement was approved for the library. Erickson explained that these were the final documents before breaking ground on the project.

This is the culmination of three years of work between us
