Council OKs Kwik Trip

The New Prague City Council approved three items required for the building of a proposed Kwik Trip during its Monday, April 3, meeting. In a 4-0 vote the council approved a preliminary and final plat for the site, a conditional use permit and variances for the business. Council member Shawn Ryan was absent from the meeting.

City Planning Director Ken Ondich presented the information on Kwik Trip. Ondich explained while the site is platted, there are multiple lots that make up the development site. The multiple lots have to be combined into a singe lot. According to the plans the former grocery store will be demolished. A 7,298-square-foot convenience store will be built on the site as well as a 1,741- square-foot detached car wash. There will also be two canopies constructed, one for gas and the other for diesel.

Ondich said the front entrance of the new Kwik Trip will face the east along Fourth Avenue NW. The plan also calls for a rain retention pond in the northeast corner of the site. There will be three access sites, two along Fourth Avenue NW and one along First Street NW. Landscaping and screening will be provided on the west side of the property, which faces a residential area.
