Council pays bills in emergency meeting - updated

UPDATE: June 19

The Montgomery City Council was able to hold an emergency meeting on Thursday morning, June 18, with councilors Jim Mladek, Mick McGuire, Tim Siebsen and Bob Taraba present to form a quorum. Mayor Jean Keogh was out of the country.

The council had originally planned to have a meeting on Monday, June 15, with McGuire, Mladek, and Taraba. However the council failed to have a quorum when Taraba did not attend.

The emergency meeting was very brief, with the council approving only the consent agenda. Items approved were the minutes from previous meetings and bills in the amount of $204,973.47.

UPDATE: June 17

The Montgomery City Council will hold its regular meeting on Thursday at 8:30 a.m. in the Council Chambers.  The agenda will remain the same as last night.

The Montgomery City Council had a regular meeting scheduled for Monday night, but with only two members present for the session, a meeting could not be held due to lack of a quorum.

Council members Mick McGuire and Jim Mladek were present, and Councilman Bob Taraba was expected to attend to complete the quorum, but he was not in attendance. Police Chief John Schmidt went to the nearby Taraba home to see if Bob was available, but he did not find anyone at home.

The city staff knew that Mayor Jean Keogh and Councilman Tim Siebsen were not available Monday night.

Unable to conduct any business that evening, City Administrator Brian Heck said they will attempt to organize an emergency meeting sometime this week, provided a quorum can be attained, to approve the consent agenda, which includes approval of claims.

“We need to pay the bills on time to avoid any penalties, which can add unnecessary expenses to city operations,” said Heck.
