County board considers 5 permits

The Le Sueur County Board of Commissioners considered five applications for Conditional Use Permits (CUPs) as part of its meeting agenda Tuesday, May 26. Four of the permits were approved, while one was put on hold pending further action.

Planning and Zoning Administrator Kathy Brockway presented the following applications:

-Dave Faltin, Henderson (applicant/owner), a CUP to construct a single-family dwelling in an Agricultural Residential District of Sharon Township. Approved 5-0.

-Le Sueur County Parks Department, Le Center (applicant), Le Sueur County, Le Center (owner), a CUP to allow grading and filling of approximately 150 cubic yards of material in a Recreational Residential District on a Recreational Development Lake (Volney) in Kilkenny Township. Approved 5-0.

-Mathiowetz Construction, Sleepy Eye (applicant), Jeff Stangler, Waterville (owner), review of an existing CUP for mineral extraction in an Agricultural Residential District of Waterville Township. Approved 5-0.

-Lincoln Outdoor Advertising, Burnsville (applicant), Jake Fretty and David Siwek, Jordan (owner), a CUP to construct a billboard in a Business District in Tyrone Township, north of Le Sueur on Highway 169. Approved 3-2, but 4-1 vote necessary. Motion to deny permit failed on 2-3 vote. County Attorney Brent Christian said if no further action is taken within the 60-day deadline, the permit is automatically approved.

-Angie McLaughlin, Montgomery (applicant/owner), an extension of an existing CUP for a Level 2 Home Occupation to keep more than two boarders in adult foster care facility in Lanesburgh Township. Approved 5-0.

Also on Tuesday:

• County Engineer Darrell Pettis received approval of agreement with Unimin for County Road 100 construction in mine area near Ottawa. Contract awarded to Chard Tiling & Excavating of Belle Plaine in the amount of $1,014,916.85. Unimin is funding the entire project.

• Building Maintenance Engineer Jim McMillen will receive estimates on trees to replace those lost in storms last July.

• Bob Goede of Minnesota Counties Insurance Trust (MCIT) presented the annual report. He said Le Sueur County consistently ranks well in the worker's compensation experience area.

• A repair request was received for County Ditch #4 in Cleveland Township and referred to SWCD.
