County Officials Assn. meets in Elysian

The Le Sueur County Officials Association held its first meeting of 2013 on January 31 at the Wilderness Restaurant, hosted by the City of Elysian.
Attending were representatives from the Cities of Elysian, Waterville, Kilkenny, Le Center, Kasota, New Prague, and Montgomery, and Le Sueur County Commissioners Steven Rohlfing, Dave Gliszinski, and Lance Wetzel.
Elysian Mayor Clinton Stoen welcomed the group of returning and newly elected officials. I addressed the purpose of the association, stating that this is a venue for cities and the county to enhance communications, share best practices, discuss multi-jurisdictional issues, and explore areas of potential collaboration and resource sharing as we all work to provide the best value to our residents.
The 2013 meeting schedule was discussed.  Suggestions for future meeting topics and speakers included Le Sueur County Assessor, Emergency Management, Region 9 economic development, and the Le Sueur County GPS Coordinator.
Commissioner Rohlfing stressed the importance of having a “driven agenda”.
The cities and commissioners also held a round-table discussion of the events and issues taking place in their respective communities sharing ideas and experiences.
The next meeting will be held on February 28, 2013, and will be hosted by the City of Montgomery. State legislators serving Le Sueur County will be invited to discuss the Governor Dayton’s budget proposal.
