Cox wins Republican primary

The field is set for the January 3, 2008, special election to fill the District 25 seat in the Minnesota Senate being vacated by Tom Neuville.

Democratic-Farmer-Labor candidate Kevin Dahle of Northfield and Independence Party candidate Vance Norgaard of Northfield will be joined on the ballot by Republican Ray Cox of Northfield.

Cox won a three-way primary election Tuesday, Dec. 18, over Rod Tietz of New Prague and Keith Swenson of Henderson.

Cox, a former member of the Minnesota House of Representatives, received 2,029 votes, or 66.7 percent of the total vote. Tietz was second with 649 votes, or 21.3 percent, and Swenson was third with 363, or 11.9 percent.

Cox carried most of the precincts handily. Tietz and Swenson both did well on their home turf. Tietz carried seven precincts, all in the New Prague-Montgomery-Kilkenny area, while Swenson carried nine precincts, most of those in Sibley County.

Profiles on the three remaining candidates will be published in next week's edition of The New Prague Times.
