Curtain Call to recognize longtime member

Curtain Call Theatre will honor one of its longtime members with a national award on Saturday at Hilltop Hall.

At 7 p.m., before the performance of “The 25th Annual Putnam County  Spelling Bee” there will be a special memorial celebration by Curtain Call Theatre, which will include The American  Association of Community Theatre (AACT) to honor the late Robert “Rob” Babione.

Earlier this year, Curtain Call nominated Babione for the AACT Spotlight Award that recognizes special achievement in service to community theatres. Babione died on November 3, 2012.

“Rob was one of the founding fathers of Curtain Call Theatre. He continued to be an active member of Curtain Call’s Board of Directors. He also acted in many of our productions, making a point to audition for each one,” said Curtain Call President Lori Sanborn.

The award will be presented to Rob’s wife, Daisy, and their family by former AACT President Bill Muchow and former Region V Representative to the AACT Board, Donna Norberg.

In addition to the award, Curtain Call has also renamed is annual scholarship for graduating high school seniors to the “Robert Babione Memorial Scholarship," in hopes that young adults will carry on his legacy to generously volunteer their time and effort to the arts and theatre.

Rob was also a charter member of the New Prague Arts Council and remained an active member of that organization. He was very active in his church and the church choir.

Doors to Hilltop Hall will open at 6:45 p.m. to the public. Complimentary refreshments will be served, including cake. There will be music of Rob's favorite songs and a slide show available to view with photographs featuring Rob.
