Curtis Mott, 78

Curtis R. Mott, 78, of Aitkin, died Friday, May 14, 2010, at the St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd.

He was born October 3, 1931, at Montevideo, a son of Andrew and Esther (Mortenson) Mott. He attended schools in Montevideo and also Minneapolis, where he graduated from Patrick Henry High School in 1949. He then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Korea. Upon his discharge, he returned to the Twin Cities and married Donna L. Johnson on September 25, 1954, in Minneapolis. They lived in Minneapolis and he worked as a sprinkler fitter, installing fire protection systems in buildings. He retired to the cabin which he had been going to for years on Long Lake near Aitkin. He has lived there since. Curtis was a member of the Long Lake Association, of which he had served as president. He was also a member of the Aitkin American Legion Post, the Pipe Fitters Local 417 and the Brainerd Area Amateur Ham Radio Club. Curtis enjoyed fishing, black powder guns and especially operating his ham radio.

He is survived by children Kevin (Debbie) Mott, Waconia, Paul (Sherry) Mott, Bloomington, Steve (Joanne) Mott, Pequot Lakes and Susan (Ron) Tupy, New Prague; 10 grandchildren Kevin, Jon, Alexander, Ryan, Angela, Rachel, Amanda, Brian, Stephanie and Nicole; and a sister Sharon Johnson, Lino Lakes.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife in 2003; a brother Wesley; and grandson Andrew Curtis.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 20, at 1 p.m., at the Bethesda Lutheran Church at Rossburg, with Rev. Sandy Berg Holte officiating.

Burial will be at the Saron Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Aitkin VFW and American Legion Posts. A Masonic Service will be held at the graveside, accorded by the Aitkin Masonic Lodge.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

Arrangements are with the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin.
