Czech Consul General to attend Dozinky

Patrick Fisher, Staff Writer

A special guest will be on hand for Dozinky, as Consul General Marek Skolil of the Czech Republic's consulate in Chicago will be visiting New Prague Saturday, Sept. 15.

Skolil will be here during the town's Czech Harvest Festival, with several events planned for his itinerary.

The proposed schedule for his visit as of Monday included breakfast at the Praha Haus at 8:30 a.m. with invited guests, including the mayors of Minnesota Czech Country communities; the Parade of Farm Pride at noon; a tour of St. Wenceslaus Church at 1:30 p.m.; a brief appearance and presentation at the Dozinky beer garden (Main Street and Central Ave. N) at 2:30 p.m.; and a reception at the home of Mayor W.A. Bink and Joyce Bender from 3 to 3:30 p.m.

The visit from Skolil happened in a roundabout way. Cindy Bastyr, who owns and operates Trailside Liquor in New Prague with her husband Duane, explained that the visit was the result of an email from Bob Marx, a business associate.

Marx provides wine from the Czech Republic to the local business and heard about New Prague's Dozinky celebration.

I thought it was fitting to have a representative of the Czech Republic here
