Czech Consul General visits New Prague

New Prague area residents met with the Consulate General of the Czech Republic in Chicago on Thursday, Feb. 25. Czech Consul General Borek Lizec’s stopover in town was in preparation of an April 2 visit of the Czech Prime Minister to Minnesota.

With Lizec was Honorary Consul Marit Lee Kucera of St. Paul. Their meeting was to find out about Czech Americans and how they keep Czech culture alive in area communities. Those who met with Lizec and Kucera were Mayor Chuck Nickolay, Stan and Vi Chromy of the Czech Heritage Club, Arnie and Deb Ziskovsky, members of the club and organizers of the Domaci Czech Folk Dancers, City Planning Director Ken Ondich and former Czech Honorary Consul Bob Vanasek.

Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka’s visit will only be to the Twin Cities, although Lizec said Czech Americans from the area are welcome to the CSPS Sokol Hall, the home of the Czech- Slovak Protective Society Hall, in St. Paul. It will be one of the stops of the Prime Minister.
