D-R-S League holds winter meeting, sets divisions

The Dakota-Rice-Scott baseball league held its annual winter meeting Monday, Dec. 29, at the Classic Grille & Bar in New Prague.

In the election of officers, president Jerry Walerius, secretary Sean O'Neill and treasurer Chris Hertaus were all reelected without opposition.

The division alignments for 2009 are: Red - Elko, Lonsdale, Montgomery and Webster; White - St. Patrick, St. Benedict, New Prague and Shakopee Coyotes; Blue - Union Hill, Prior Lake Mudcats, Veseli and New Market.

Each team in the league will play 21 games, except for Elko. The Express won last year's State Class C championship and thus has been moved to Class B for at least the next two seasons. They will not be eligible for the league playoffs and must play a certain number of games against Class B teams during the season.

League play will start Sunday, April 26, and end on Sunday, July 19.

Division Vice presidents chosen were Mike Sandman of Webster (Red), Monte Hennen of St. Patrick (white), and Chris Hertaus of Veseli (Blue).

New Prague was chosen as the site of the all-star game, which is tentatively set for Friday, July 10.

League by-laws were discussed. The next league meeting will be in early April.
