D-R-S League Results 7-14-05

St. Patrick’s Irish moved into second place in the Red Division standings with three wins in four games and New Market, Elko and Veseli each won a pair with the Warriors advancing to second place in the White Division standings.

Joe Friedges of Veseli pitched a one-hitter at the New Prague park last Thursday night.

Tuesday, July 5

St. Patrick 10, New Prague 0 (7 inn.)

Jeff Bjerke hit a grand slam homer and drove in two additional runs with doubles as St. Patrick blanked the Orioles at New Prague, 10-0, seven innings.

Bjerke’s homer in the sixth inning upped a 3-0 Irish lead to 7-0 and St. Patrick added three unearned runs in the seventh to win on the 10-run rule.

Matt Pexa, with a double, and Paul Tisdel, with a single, drove in other runs in the first and third innings.

New Prague was limited to six hits off the pitching of Bill Dunker, who went the distance and struck out nine.

Dan Shetka hit two of the six scattered Oriole singles.

New Prague had scoring chances in the second and sixth innings but infield plays ended the threats with a third out.

Wednesday, July 6

Elko 4, Union Hill 2

Home runs drove in most of the scores in this close game at Elko which was won by the Express, 4-2.

Elko got on the board first in the opening inning as Tony Gabriel singled, stole second, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt which went for an error, and scored during a double play.

In the fourth inning, Matt Sticha hit a double for Union Hill and Brian Giesen hit a home run to left center for a 2-1 Bulldogs lead.

But in their fourth inning at bat, Elko’s Jeff Joosten homered with Ash Larsen on base for a 3-2 lead by the Express.

Joosten then homered again in the eighth with no one on for the final run.

Nick Davis hit three singles for Elko and Ty Dombeck hit safely twice.

New Market 4, St. Patrick 2

Righthander D.J. Damberger held St. Patrick to eight singles, four of those after the first inning, as the Muskies defeated St. Patrick at Bonin Field, 4-2. He struck out seven, walked two and hit one batter in going the route.

There was no scoring after the second inning with New Market taking a 3-0 lead in the opening inning on five singles.

St. Patrick hit four singles in its at bat in the first with Matt Pexa and Jeff Bjerke driving in the two runs.

New Market added a single run in the second as Damberger singled with one out, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on Nick Arneson’s single.

John Johnson pitched three-hit ball for the Irish after that.

Players getting two hits in the game were Wes Straight, Damberger, Arneson and Jim Lackore for New Market and Pexa and Paul Tisdel of St. Patrick.

Thursday, July 7

Veseli 3, New Prague 0

Both defenses were great for the first eight innings in this game at New Prague with no errors and no runs, one hit by the Orioles and two by the Warriors!

Veseli capitalized in the top of the ninth on a walk, two miscues, good base running, an intentional walk, another error and a two-run single to left by Chad Krenik. That put the Warriors on top 3-0.

A first-inning single by Steve Olson and a double by Dustin Steinhoff in the fifth inning were the other Veseli hits and Louis Lang hit a second-inning single for New Prague’s only hit.

Joe Friedges of the Warriors and Eric Chlan of New Prague hooked up in a great pitcher’s duel with Chlan giving way to Ryan Gebur after a walk to open the top of the ninth. Friedges went the distance, striking out 11 and walking two.

New Prague threatened in the last of the ninth but left two runners on base.

Saturday, July 9

St. Patrick 12, Lonsdale 10

Lonsdale had an early 4-0 lead after two innings at Bonin Field but Paul Tisdel hit a grand slam homer in the third and St. Patrick added four runs in the fifth and three in the sixth to beat the Aces, 12-10.

Tisdel also hit a single and sacrifice fly to total six RBI’s for the game. Matt Pexa hit three singles and a sac fly to drive in an additional three runs and Jake Malz hit a run-scoring double.

Chad Vosejpka of the Aces started the scoring with a homer to left on the third pitch of the game, errors allowed another run and Kyle Kalina hit a two-run single in the second for the Aces.

Chad Vosejpka and Kyle Kalina each batted four for four with Vosejpka driving in three runs and Kalina hitting a run-scoring single and a double. Brian Vosejpka also hit a leadoff double in the fifth.

Wade Schuknecht, Bill Dunker and Ben Scheffler also had two hits each for the Irish with Schuknecht hitting a double.

Sunday, July 10

Union Hill 14, New Prague 4 (8 inn.) The Bulldogs outhit the Orioles at Union Hill and were aided by seven walks and some miscues as they defeated New Prague, 14-4, in eight innings.

Righthander Sean O’Neill scattered nine Oriole hits over seven innings, including two home runs by Louis Lang, who batted three for three and drove in three runs.

Angel Cortez drove in the other New Prague run with a third-inning single, which scored Tony DeLuca, who batted two for four.

Rick Bell and O’Neill hit solo homers for the Bulldogs and Dan Smith and Brian Peters had three hits each, with Peters knocking a three-run double in the fourth.

Matt Sticha hit a double in the eighth and with one out Phil Giesen hit a sac fly to score Brian Giesen with the final run.

Kurt Ploog hit a fourth-inning double and scored on a bunt single by Wes Straight and also homered with one on in the fifth to plate all three New Market runs in a 3-0 home win over Shakopee.

The Coyotes were held to three hits by righthander Jeremy Wieland, who has recorded 24 consecutive scoreless innings.

New Market had two double plays with the second one ending the game.

The Aces outhit Webster and benefited from many walks in a 12-0 win on the Sox diamond.

Brian Vosejpka batted three for five including a double, Brad Vosejpka hit two doubles and Chad Vosejpka had two for four in the nine-hit attack.

Webster hits were by Kurt Seurer, Mike Ehrhardt, Travis Groth and Eric Huckle.

St. Patrick 10, St. Benedict 6

The Irish used a four-run fifth inning to regain the lead and wound up 10-6 winners over St. Benedict at the Saints park.

Craig Boser’s two-run homer highlighted that inning.

In the early going, Paul Tisdel hit a run-scoring double for St. Patrick and Matt Pexa hit a solo homer in the third.

St. Benedict held one-run leads in the third and fourth innings as Scott Eischens hit a three-run homer and John Lambrecht hit one with bases empty.

Five other doubles were hit by the two teams which did not score any runs.

Matt Ambroz had three hits for the Irish, including a two-run single.

Jeff Joosten drove in three runs with a home run and a single, Ty Dombeck and Corey Grisim hit run-scoring singles and two runs were unearned as Elko shut out the visiting Prior Lake Mudcats, 7-0.

Lefthander Josh Roiger pitched seven scoreless innings to record the win.

It was Elko’s sixth straight league win.

Veseli 9, Montgomery 3

A seven-run seventh inning by the Warriors, which broke a 2-2 tie, decided this contest played at Veseli.

The winners sent 13 batters to the plate in this inning which included two errors, run-scoring singles by Neil Fischer, Eric Steinhoff and Tim Picka followed by four consecutive, bases-loaded walks.

Veseli first two runs in were unearned.

Montgomery scored a pair in the sixth as Chris Ziskovsky and Derek Fautsch each singled, Josh Kuchinka executed a suicide squeeze bunt for a run and Joe Peterson hit an RBI single.

The Mallards loaded the bases in the seventh but a double play got Veseli out of trouble and in the eighth Bert Westerman’s single scored Peterson, who had hit a one-out single.
