Dan Weydert is Firefighter of the Year

When Dan Weydert’s boss told him, “If you want to get to know the good people in a community, get on the fire department.”

Weydert took his advice and joined the Montgomery Fire Department nine years ago. He agrees that his boss was right.

“He was right. I like to help out and get to know the people in the community, and I have met some of the best people around,” he said.  

In addition to responding to fire and accident calls, Weydert also serves as the department’s relief treasurer and trainer for the department’s rapid intervention crew that rescues downed firefighters. 

Because of his dedication on and off of the fire department, Weydert’s fellow firefighters chose him as firefighter of the year at their annual banquet on January 16. The event recognized the department's firefighters and emergency service providers for the time they devoted to training and responding to calls during 2015.
