Darlene F. Hull, age 82

Darlene F. Hull, age 82, of New Prague, died peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at her home on Monday, March 20, 2017. Darlene was born September 1, 1934, in Traverse County, Minnesota, to William and Clara (Bock) Swanson.

She was raised in Wheaton, MN, where she graduated from Wheaton High School. After her marriage to Arden W. Hull on June 29, 1952, the couple made their home in Wheaton, until Arden entered the military and they moved to Illinois for a year and a half.

They returned to Wheaton briefly before moving to Hills, MN, where Darlene began her work as a CNA with Tuff Homes. She also served as a lunch lady at the public schools in Hills and was very active in Circle and Ladies Aid at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

They moved to New Prague in 1977 and Darlene worked for over 25 years at Mala Strana Nursing Home in many capacities, most notably with the activities department.

Following her retirement after a stroke, she continued to volunteer at the nursing home and she became lovingly known as the “juice lady”.

Darlene was a woman of many interests and talents. She loved arts and crafts and anything to do with the creative arts, including sewing, crocheting, knitting, ceramics, woodworking, and quilting. She made clothing for all the kids and grandkids, handmade Christmas ornaments for everyone each Christmas, and made and collected snowmen. Her talents also found their way to the garden and kitchen where she enjoyed flowers, baking, and canning.

Darlene is survived by her husband, Arden; children, Vicki (Jacob) Sells of Belle Plaine, Kathie Hull of Brooklyn Park, Debbie (Mark) Wheeler of Sioux Falls, SD, David Hull of Eden Prairie, Patti (Mark) Gilster of Belle Plaine; brother, Darryl (Donna) Swanson of San Diego, CA; sister, Donna (Don) Schultz of Faribault; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.
