'This day is for soldiers...'
Patrick Fisher, Staff Writer
Remembering soldiers for their leadership and sacrifice was a continuing theme during Memorial Day services in New Prague Monday, May 25.
At the St. Patrick, St. Benedict, Lanesburgh, Union Hill, Czech National and St. Wenceslaus cemeteries the names of fallen soldiers and deceased veterans were read and the New Prague Honor Guard sounded a rifle salute.
The honor guard joined others in a parade down Main Street to the main program at the Veterans Memorial in Memorial Park. Master of ceremonies Tom Tupy welcomed the more than one hundred people and Father Kevin Clinton of St. Wenceslaus Church gave the invocation.
Mayor W.A. Bink Bender noted in his welcoming address the sacrifices veterans had made in body and mind.
These heroes stand among us today as living memorials of the cost of democracy
