Delores Erickson, 87

Delores Dorothy Erickson, 87, of Montgomery, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems Hospital in New Prague.

Delores was born February 27, 1925, in Lanesburgh Township, Le Sueur County, a daughter of William and Sylvia (Chromy) Dietz. She attended country school and New Prague Schools, graduating in 1943. After high school, she stayed with her aunt and uncle in Minneapolis while she attended the University of Minnesota. Later she enrolled and graduated from the Parisian Beauty School. Delores worked briefly in Minneapolis as a beautician, until she joined fellow beautician Hedy (Mares) Joachim, who operated Hedy’s Beauty Shop in Jordan. She later bought the business from Hedy and renamed it Delores’ Beauty Shop, which she operated until 1976. Delores married Donald “Tex” Erickson on January 2, 1954, at Immanuel Methodist Church in Jordan. She was active in Jordan Cub Scout Pack 332, serving as a Scoutmaster for several years, and was awarded Indianhead Council Scouter of the Year for 1968. She was also active at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Jordan, and was chair of the board of trustees in 1976. Later in life, she traveled extensively with family and friends to destinations in the U.S., Europe and the Caribbean. With the decline of her parents’ health, Delores and her husband moved from Jordan to a house they built on the family farm in Lanesburgh Township. She continued living there until moving into Traditions of Montgomery in 2011.

She is survived by a son Dwight (Olga) Erickson, Woodbury; granddaughter Eleanor Erickson, Woodbury; sister-in-law Madelyn Gardner, Plymouth; two nieces and two nephews; an uncle Alvin Chromy, Montgomery; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband on August 6, 2001. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Jan. 23, at 11 a.m., at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague, with the Rev. Larry Kasten of the United Methodist Church officiating.

Interment was at the Czech National Cemetery in New Prague. Pallbearers were Harry Dietz, Alvin Dietz, Phyllis Dahl, Pam Bolls, Olga Erickson and Ella Jahn.

Visitation was held from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
