Display celebrates city's rich musical heritage

New Prague's musical heritage and tradition takes center stage for the New Prague Area Historical Society's exhibit at the New Prague Library, 400 Main St. E. The display, near the entrance of the library, will be up through November.

Dennis Dvorak of the society, explained the exhibit is to coincide with Dozinky, with music being a major part of the celebration.

Dvorak said music in the community began with the first immigrants. They used it in Sunday worship with choirs or during chores. Music was also for entertainment at house parties, get togethers or celebrations. Czech immigrants had button accordions, while among the Irish, fiddlers were often found. He noted that in time one ethnic group's music overlapped another's.
