Donald Flicek, 72

Donald Julius Flicek, 72, of Waterville, formerly of Montgomery, died peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born at home in New Prague on September 10, 1938, a son of Edward and Esther (Zvanovec) Flicek Sr. He attended New Prague schools, graduating with the class of 1957. He enlisted with the Army Reserves, and in 1958 joined the U.S. Marine Corps, where he served until 1963. Don married Ellen Rauschke at St. John Lutheran Church in Montgomery on December 14, 1963. He was employed as a foreman for Bryan Rock Products in Shakopee for 36 years, retiring in 2001. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Montgomery, American Legion Post 79, VFW Post 5340, Local 49er's, Waterville Bowling Association, and served for many years as a secretary for the Montgomery Bowling Association. Don enjoyed the outdoors, taking yearly trips up north, fishing, bowling, gardening and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He will be remembered for his contagious smile, his jesting ways, his ever-helping hands and his love of life and family.

He is survived by his wife; children Tammy (Scott) Plonsky, Chris (Todd) Reak, Grace (Paul) Sawatzky and Andrea Flicek (friend Pat Doran), all of Montgomery; grandchildren Jack and Allie Plonsky, Brianna and Brandilyn Reak, Tyler, Quinton and Olivia Sawatzky and Madeline and Nicholas Novotny; his mother; sister Julia (Bernie) Busch Sr., Jordan; mother-in-law Lorraine Cemensky, Waterville; brother-in-law Newell (Karen) Rauschke, New Prague; sisters-in-law Dorothy Flicek, Le Center, Laurie (Wally) Callenius, Shakopee and Bonnie Rauschke, Le Sueur; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father; and brothers George and Edward Flicek Jr.

A celebration of life service was held at noon Saturday, Oct. 23, at St. John Lutheran Church in Montgomery, with Pastor Joy Bussert officiating.

Interment with military rites by the Montgomery Area Veterans Honor Guard, and a Spirit Dove release was held at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Montgomery. Urn bearers were Gilbert Jabs, Bernie Busch Sr., Newell (Red) Rauschke and Wally Callenius.

Visitation was held Saturday from 10 a.m. until noon at the church.

Arrangements were with the Keohen Memorial Funeral Home in Montgomery.
