Donald Odette, 80
Donald G. Odette, 80, of Elko New Market, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
He was born August 13, 1928, in Hastings, a son of Jerome and Alice (Branes) Odette. He attended Hazelwood Public School and married Virginia Doherty on August 5, 1950, at St. Catherine Church in Spring Lake Township. They farmed west of New Market and he worked at ThermoKing in Bloomington. He enjoyed his Black Angus cattle and hunting, and is in the Minnesota Deer Hunters record book. Donald was a member of the New Market Sportsmen Club.
He is survived by his wife; children Randy (Sue) Odette, New Prague, Joyce (Allen) Shimota, Prior Lake, Tom (Jenifer) Odette, St. Cloud and Marie Odette, Prior Lake; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; siblings Eugene (Mae) Odette, Northfield, Gerald (Sue) Odette, Northfield and Ardyth Kidd, Northfield.
He was preceded in death by a son Larry Odette in 1953; and his parents.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 26, at 11 a.m., at the Church of St. Catherine, with Rev. Orlando Tatel officiating.
Interment will be at St. Catherine Cemetery in St. Catherine.
Casket bearers will be Randy Kes, Blake Kes, Dick Mushitz, Barry Niklaus, Cyril Simon, Jeff Bjerke and Gary Shimota. Honorary casket bearers are grandchildren Heather Brakefield, Chad Shimota, Amy Krueger, Christopher Shimota, Megan Shimota, Cassie Grenz, Allie Grenz, Mathew Odette and Michael Odette.
Visitation will be at the church from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday.
Arrangements are with the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague.
