Don't forget local elections

By Chuck Kajer, Managing Editor

New Prague voters will have plenty of choices when they go to the polls in three weeks. The current mayor is being challenged by a former mayor and six candidates are seeking two open seats on the city council.

While the rate of growth has slowed, New Prague remains a growing community and the people who serve on the City Council will have plenty of decisions to make regarding the direction of that growth.

It's easy in a year when we're selecting a new president to forget about the local races. But you need to look at the choices and listen to the candidates' views on the issues for the city and county elections just as you do for the federal and state elections.

We encourage all voters to get complete information on all the candidates in all the races. For those who are not familiar, The New Prague Times will be running a special section October 30 with short profiles on each candidate along with their views on issues. The preview will cover not only New Prague elections, but Elko New Market elections as well as area county and legislative elections.

With so many candidates running for city council, voters will have a tough decision. We hope our election coverage makes your decision a bit easier.

Oh, and to mayoral candidates Bink Bender and Craig S. Sindelar, and council candidates Rob Babione, Mark Bartusek, Ken Betterton, Blake Bredeson, Kristen Guerette and Dick Jordan, we say thank you for caring about your community to the extent that you are running for office. That you are willing to dedicate your time to the community says a lot. The community appreciates your willingness to serve.
