Dr. Robert F. Janu, DDS, age 82
Dr. Robert F. Janu, DDS, age 82 of Shakopee, formerly of New Prague died on Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Shakopee.
He was born on November 27, 1933 in New Prague, the son of Antoinette Janu. On July 25, 1967 he married the love of his life, Luella Blood in Reno, Nevada. He attended St. Wenceslaus grade school and was a 1951 graduate of New Prague High School. After high school, he attended the University of Minnesota, where he achieved his Doctorate of Dentistry.
He then served in the United States Army during the Korean War and rose to the rank of Captain. When he returned from the war, he practiced dentistry for a short time in Crosby, Minnesota. He then established his practice in Shakopee, where he continued until retirement.
All of his life, he was a passionate lover of sports. He could recite volumes about any sport. Currently, at the top of his list was the Minnesota Lynx. When he was younger, one of his very favorite things was spending a few weeks during the winter in Hawaii with Luella. They developed many long term friendships with several families there. He was devoted to his grandchildren and was just beginning to enjoy watching his great-grandchildren grow. Anyone that knows him will remember him as a very generous man, quick witted and always ready with a joke.
Robert is preceded in death by wife, Luella, October 16, 2006. He is survived by daughter, Candy (Art) VanderWaal of Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin; grandsons, Jesse (Heather), Patrick (Tabitha), Sean (Deanna); 5 greatgrandchildren; brothers in law; sisters in law; nieces; nephews; cousin; and friends.
Visitation began at 9 a.m. on Friday, December 2, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, New Prague, followed by funeral service at 10 a.m. Interment at Lakewood Cemetery, Crosby, MN.
