Dr. Warren W. Vollmar, 83

Dr. Warren W. Vollmar, 83, of New Prague, died on Thursday, Oct. 7, 2004, at Hospice Homes and Suites, in Elko. He was a member of a family which has included four veterinarians.

A son of Dr. Otto and Pauline (Bury) Vollmar, Dr. Warren Vollmar was born in Montgomery, on June 13, 1921. He graduated from Montgomery High School, and from Iowa State University School of Veterinary Medicine. He served with the U.S. Army, from 1939 until 1943.

Dr. Warren Vollmar and LaVonne (Bonnie) Benda were married in Jackson, on June 20, 1945, and they have made their home in New Prague. He retired from active practice in 1988.

Dr. Vollmar served as a member of the New Prague School Board, and as an officer of the Rotary Club, the New Prague Golf Club and the New Prague Business and Professional Association. He served on the first Parish Council of St. Wenceslaus Church, and he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Dr. Vollmar was a former Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 323, New Prague, and was a recipient of the St. George Medal for outstanding service to Boy Scouts. He was a life member of the Minnesota Veterinary Medicine Association.

Dr. Vollmar also enjoyed travel, playing cards, reading, doing crossword puzzles and spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid Minnesota Twins fan.

Dr. Warren Vollmar is survived by his wife, LaVonne (Bonnie) Vollmar, New Prague; and nine children, Mary Vollmar, Minneapolis; Warren Vollmar, Jr., (Ann), Cook; Peter (Mary Kay) Vollmar, Faribault; Paula (Phil) Heywood, Minneapolis; Anne (Mark) Benzell, St. Paul; Dr. William (Judy) Vollmar, New Prague; John (Rosalie) Vollmar, Eagan; Jim Vollmar (fiancee Lori Griffith), Scandia; and Ellen Vollmar (partner, Trae Duininck), Burnsville. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Reid, Jacob, Willy, Mary, Dustin, Tobin, Brianne, Kelly, and Katie Vollmar, Molly (Shannon) Solberg, Emily and Sarah Benzell, and Jack Duininck; and one great-grandchild, Fisher Solberg. He is also survived by brothers, Paul (Nancy) Vollmar, Montgomery, and Jim (Susan) Vollmar, Duluth; and a sister-in-law, Julie Vollmar, Montgomery. In addition to his parents, Dr. Vollmar was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Roland Vollmar.

Funeral services were held on Monday, Oct. 11, at 10 a.m., at the Church of St. Wenceslaus, in New Prague. The Rev. George Freeman, pastor, and the Rev. Peter Kirchner, of Motley, officiated at the Mass of Christian Burial.

Urn bearers were Reid and Jacob Vollmar, grandsons, and serving as honorary pallbearers were Molly Solberg, Jack Duininck, Emily and Sarah Benzell, and Willy, Mary, Dustin, Tobin, Brianne, Kelly and Katie Vollmar, grandchildren.

Interment will be at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery, at a later date.

Visitation was at the Bruzek Funeral Home, in New Prague, on Sunday.
