Drive with extra care

It’s always a good idea to pay attention when driving a motor vehicle, but there may be no better time to remind drivers about the responsibility they take when they get behind the wheel.

Monday, Oct. 31, is Halloween. that means young children will be going house-to-house all around town trick-or-treating.

While most young children are under adult supervision, it can be very difficult to contain the enthusiasm these youngsters feel when they are in costume, sometimes in a group, going door-to-door. Since trick-ortreating happens during the late afternoon and evening, as the sun is setting, it is especially important to be extra cautious.

Right after that, on November 6, Daylight Savings Time ends. While many people welcome the “extra hour” of sleep, they need to realize that the sun goes down an hour earlier, and while they may have been coming home from work in daylight on Friday, that daylight has turned to darkness over the weekend.

Our best advice over these next few weeks, and throughout the year... Slow down, keep your hands on the wheel... keep your eyes on the road and not on the radio, your passengers or, as this community learned tragically a year ago, your mobile phones.

Careless driving can lead to a lifetime of regrets. Please, this Halloween, be careful when you get behind the wheel... Young lives are depending on you.
