Edna Thom, 97

Edna Thom, 97, of Mankato, died Sunday, May 25, 2008, at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.

Edna Susanna Helena Thom was born October 20, 1910, at home in Heidelberg, a daughter of John Friederich (Fred) and (Jo)Hannah (Huber) Wieland. She was baptized and confirmed at Friedens Lutheran Church in New Prague. On November 22, 1932, she married Fred Albert Thom at St. John Lutheran Church in Montgomery. Edna resided in New Prague from 1910-1932, moved to Nicollet from 1932-1947 and lived in Mankato since 1947. She was a homemaker, an implement dealer's assistant, a Stanley product sales representative and a house cleaner. She worked for Automatic Electric Co. (Midtex) as a machine operator from 1953-1975 and was also employed at Hager Manufacturing. Edna worked in Home Health Care until 1990, was a night nurse aide and was employed with Immanuel Hospital. She was active in the community and Our Savior's Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Mankato Moose Lodge, Mankato Eagles Club and was a union member and officer.

She is survived by children Dennis (Jane) Thom, Prior Lake, Marion Brunz, Mankato and Cedric Thom, Nicollet; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister Margie Busacker, Jordan; sister-in-law Ruth (Kenneth) Yaeger, North Mankato; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; grandson Mark Thom; two sisters Anna Fuhrman and Elnora Gosewisch; and two brothers Walter Wieland and Fred Wieland, Jr.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 29, at 11 a.m., at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Mankato, with Rev. Jack Dahl and Rev. Paul Lauer officiating.

Burial will be at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Montgomery.

Visitation was held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mankato Mortuary and one hour before the service on Thursday.
