Education valued here

By Tim Thorp, President, New Prague Education Association

What a great time to be an educator in New Prague! For me, it is a great time to be the president of a group of teachers faced with growth issues rather than the gloom and doom of decline. New buildings to be built, new hires to meet, new grade level configurations and new challenges are all sources of energy and enthusiasm for students and staff.

Just as change adds stress to a person’s individual life, school district changes are also going to make life interesting for our school board, administrators, staff and community. I feel confident that we have the people and the great community support to get the job done.

The people of the New Prague area value their schools and expect much from them. We have outstanding attendance at schools, events and open houses. Our participation levels for programs offered by the schools are strong. As we open new spaces, hopefully we can still maintain this ownership and participation piece that makes teaching in the New Prague Area Schools a good place to teach.

Retiring teachers to be recognized

I invite you to help celebrate the work of seven of our teachers who are retiring this year. Peg Anzelc-34 years, Don Dvorak-31, Rick Frykman-36, Kevin Kreger-30, Bill Silliman-19, Sue Stoddard-27 and Sandy Wadsworth-34.

The retirement party will be held on Thursday, May 19 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in New Prague from 4-6:30 p.m. with refreshments and a short program at 5:30 p.m.

As we look into the future we need to celebrate the wonderful contributions these great teachers have made and give them our thanks.
