Edward Coughlin, 74

Edward F. Coughlin, 74, of Burnsville, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009, surrounded by his family, after battling cancer.

Born in New Prague on August 22, 1934, Ed was a son of Jerome and Regina Coughlin, and was raised in Montgomery. He attended St. Raphael Catholic School and graduated from Montgomery High School in 1952. While in high school he participated in football, basketball and baseball all four years, was named all-conference in both basketball and football and was voted the top athlete of his class. Ed was also a graduate of the College of St. Thomas and served in the U.S. Army at Fort Chaffee, AR. He worked as a CPA and many years later retired from First Minnesota, where he served as vice president and treasurer. An avid fan of all sports, Ed enjoyed golf, fishing, cards and bingo.

He is survived by children Joseph (Shannon) Coughlin, Maple Grove and Mary (Carman) Dosch, Dupree, SD; grandchildren Nicole, Cameron, Ryan, Meghan, Cory, Tyler, Olivia and Caitlin; a brother Clayton (Darlene) Coughlin; and a sister Rita (Robert) Ilg.

He was preceded in death by wife Shirley (nee Soulek); three infants Edward Joseph, Rebecca Ann and Baby Coughlin; and his parents.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 30, at Mary, Mother of the Church in Burnsville, with visitation held one hour prior to the service.

Interment was held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Arrangements were with the Cremation Society of Minnesota.
