Ella A. Nachbar, 83

Ella A. Nachbar, 83, of Jordan, died at the Belle Plaine Lutheran Home on Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004.

She was born in New Prague to Bernard and Marie (Bohnsack) Ehmke on February 16, 1921. She graduated from Mankato Teachers College. Prior to her marriage she taught school in a one room schoolhouse in the Le Sueur County area. Following that time, she received her four-year teaching degree from Mankato State College. Subsequently she taught in many area schools.

Ella married Harold Nachbar on October 11, 1943, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague. Ella was a homemaker who volunteered at the Schule Haus and Valley View Care Center. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, embroidering and quilt making, some of which were donated to the St. John’s Fall Festival.

Ella is survived by her children, Dick (Regi) Nachbar, Caldwell, ID, Dough Nachbar, Bloomington, and Patty (Greg) Jakobe, Mankato; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mae Hanegraaf, St. Paul; nieces, nephews, and caregiver and friend, Pet Schmitt, Jordan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Nachbar, who died on August 18, 2003; sister, Lynda Sullivan; brothers, Walter, Edwin, Herman, Gilbert, Arnie and Fred Ehmke.

The funeral was held at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Jordan on Monday, Oct. 18, at 11:30 a.m. Reverend John J. Mitchell officiated. Pallbearers were Nick Nachbar, Ralph Sullivan, Ben Rezac, Randy Beinhorn, Roger Slater and David Schwichtenberg.

Visitation was on Sunday, Oct. 17 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home in Jordan and one hour prior to the service at church on Monday.

Interment was at Calvary Cemetery in Jordan.
