Elsie Novak, 94

Elsie J. Novak, 94, of New Prague, died Friday, July 25, 2008, at Mala Strana Health Care Center in New Prague.

She was born on October 19, 1913, in Lonsdale, a daughter of Frank and Anna (Kuzelka) Hruby. She attended Lonsdale Catholic School, New Prague High School and New Prague Normal School Training. She married Emil W. Novak on May 24, 1938, in Lonsdale. Elsie taught all eight grades in country school and worked as a waitress at the New Prague Hotel for 30 years after her children were in school. She was a member of the Queen of Peace Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered at the Peace Center food shelf.

She is survived by five children Mary (William) Osborn, Georgetown, TX, Arlene (William) Kindseth, Stillwater, Nancy (Fred) Vescio, Apple Valley, Sandy Giesen, Stillwater and David (Sandi) Novak, Lakeville; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sisters Helen Sladek, New Prague and Evelyn Sevcik, New Prague; and a brother Ed (Adeline) Hruby, Lonsdale.

She was preceded in death by her husband on December 31, 1981; her parents; and two brothers Frank and George Hruby.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 29, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague, with Rev. Kevin Clinton officiating.

Interment was at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in New Prague. Pallbearers were grandchildren Ann VanHeerden, Patrick Osborn, Kelly Woetzel, Kathy Postiglione, Debi Friedrich, Michael Kindseth, Teri Beinlich, Jack Kindseth, Fred F. Vescio, Jon Vescio, Christin Giesen, Susan Giesen, Drew Novak, Lindy Sandmann and Dylan Novak.

Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and 7:30 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague. Parish wake prayers were held at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
