ENM City Council chooses new member

The Elko New Market City Council had three interviews of residents to fill an empty seat on the council. During a special meeting on T h u r s d a y, May 26, the council interviewed Linda Borgen, who serves on the Elko Express Baseball Board; Dawn Seepersaud who works for RE/MAX realtors in Lakeville and Kate Timmerman, who owns and operates Firehouse Grill in Elko New Market. During its business meeting later that evening the council approved Timmerman 4-0 to fill the seat.

She is replacing Jason Stern who resigned in April. Stern and his family moved to San Diego, CA., where he had accepted a position with the office of the San Diego Chargers of the NFL. Stern had been elected to a fouryear term in 2014. Since more than half of that term is left, under state statute, the city needs to hold a special election. The council decided to have that with its general elections in November. The council also decided to ask for applicants and have the person chosen serve until the November elections. Timmerman will be sworn into office at the council’s Thursday, June 9, meeting.

In discussing the three applicants, council member Josh Berg thought they had a nice variety of applicants, but thought Timmerman was the one clear choice as she brought passion, strength and knowledge of the business world to the table.
