ENM Council approves budget

In what was one of its briefest meetings, the Elko New Market City Council approved its budget and 2017 property tax levy payable in 2018 on Thursday, Dec. 21. The entire meeting lasted less than seven minutes.

At its previous meeting on Thursday, Dec. 7, the council went over its proposed 2017 property tax levy payable in 2018, which is $2,168,935, an increase of $114,252 or about a 5.56 percent increase from last year. That budget includes adding a new police officer, a new public works employee and an additional debt service levy. The council held its Truth in Taxation Hearing at the December 7 meeting with one person attending. His questions were answered by Scott County Commissioner Tom Wolf.
