The Elko New Market Planning Commission will hold two public hearings at its Tuesday, Sept. 1, meeting. Both hearings concern changes to ordinances. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. and will be held at the Elko New Market City Hall.
One ordinance deals with the types of trees that can be planted in the city. The commission is proposing the removal of ash trees from the list due to recent concerns of the Emerald Ash Borer. The beetle has been found in Minnesota and is a danger to ash trees since it can kill them. Even if ash trees are removed there are still more than 13 varieties of trees that can be planted.
The other ordinance is about the financial securities a developer provides to the city. The securities are a safeguard to the city if a developer is unable to pay bills. The proposed amendment to the ordinance specifies the types of financial securities that can be used.
If the commission recommends the ordinances for approval, they will be presented to the Elko New Market City Council at its Thursday, Sept. 24, meeting.
