Eugene Wann, 87

Eugene C. Wann, 87, of New Prague, died Saturday, May 23, 2009, at his home.

Gene was born on October 26, 1921, in Chicago, IL, a son of Attorney Eugene Sr. and Katherine (Smith) Wann. He was reared in Whitefish Bay, WI, and attended St. Monica Catholic School, Whitefish Bay High School, the College of St. Thomas and William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul. Gene conducted a law practice in New Prague, for more than 50 years. Gene served with the U.S. Navy Amphibious Forces in the South Pacific during World War II, attaining the rank of Lt.J.G. Eugene C. Wann and Lois M. Suel, were married at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague, on April 21, 1945. He was a former city attorney and attorney for the New Prague School District, and a former municipal judge. Gene was a member of the Minnesota Bar Association, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, New Prague Chamber of Commerce, New Prague Opportunities, Cedar Lake Improvement Association, Cedar Lake Improvement District, the New Prague VFW and American Legion and New Prague Veterans Honor Guard. He was active in the Boy Scouts, served on the New Prague Golf Club Board, was a Cedar Lake Regatta Commodore and was a former Dozinky Parade Grand Marshal.

He is survived by his wife; sons E. Charles (Janis) Wann III and Arthur S. (Ann) Wann, both of New Prague; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law Joseph (Fyrell) Kelly, Oconomowoc, WI.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Mary Katherine Kelly; and a brother Richard, in infancy.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 27, at 10 a.m., at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague, with Rev. Kevin Clinton officiating.

Interment was at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery in New Prague. Pallbearers were David Wann, Kurt Wann, Steve Meloche, John Ingebrand, Eric Wann and Jesse Bethke.

Visitation was held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Bruzek Funeral Home in New Prague. Parish wake prayers were offered at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
