Fall sports off and running!

New Prague High School fall sports teams began their preparation for the coming season Monday, Aug. 12. It was the first day of practice for eight teams. Of those teams one, the girls cross country team, has a new coach. Shawn Brandt has taken over the job from Julie Berg, who stepped down after last year.

            All other head coaches for Trojan fall sports returned. They are Jim Benick (football), Nick Meyer, (boys cross country,) Kyle Zellner (girls tennis), Jennifer Ongie-Jindra (girls swimming and diving), Jon Hopke (boys soccer), Steve Kehrli (girls soccer) and Angie Anderson (volleyball).

            Competition will begin next week for five of the eight teams. The first to get things underway will be the Trojan girls tennis team, which will travel to the Mankato East Invitational on Tueday, Aug. 20. Also next week, the Trojan boys and girls soccer teams get things underway against Mankato East on Thursday, Aug. 22. The boys are at Mankato while the girls play at home. The Trojan girls swimming and diving team will compete in the Missota Relays  on Thursday, Aug. 22, at Northfield, while the girls volleyball team hosts Hopkins on Friday, Aug. 23.
