Faribault takes over 1st place in DRS

Faribault won three games last week to stay undefeated and moved into first place in the Dakota-Rice-Scott Baseball League. The Lakers defeated Montgomery, St. Patrick and Lonsdale. Other highlights of the week include Montgomery and St. Benedict winning slugfests against Veseli, Prior Lake winning by forfeit over Shakopee, Dan Feneis taking a no-hitter into the ninth inning in a 4-0 Union Hill win over Montgomery and Zach Seurer getting a two-hit shutout for St. Patrick against Webster. Tuesday, May 30 Lakers 5, Mallards 1 Faribault defeated Montgomery 5-1 in a DRS league game at Faribault. No other information was available.

Thursday, June 1 Lakers 5, Irish 4 Faribault overcame a 3-0 deficit to register a 5-4 win over St. Patrick. Ryan Archambault had three hits for the Lakers, with Egan Bonde pitching seven innings, allowing six hits and three runs while striking out nine. Matt Lane pitched two innings of relief and picked up the win. St. Patrick’s Kyle Rhodus had two hits and two RBIs, with Brok Schwartzkopf also getting two hits. Josh Simon started and went eight innings allowing four runs and eight hits while striking out eight. Zach Seurer pitched the ninth inning and gave up the winning run with two outs.

Friday, June 2 Mallards 12, Warriors 8 Montgomery and Veseli combined for 34 hits in a slugfest, with the Mallards prevailing by a 12-8 score in Montgomery. Pat Lloyd and Tom Flicek each had four hits for Montgomery, while Ryan Iverson and Jaron Christensen had three and Mike Flicek and Mike Kocina two. Iverson had three RBIs to lead the Mallards. Johnny Krocak struck out seven in five innings to get the win. For Veseli, Nate Novak and Nathan Simon had three hits each and Cody Shimota, Tyler Busch, and Corey Freidges had two each. Novak had three RBIs.

Mudcats 9, Coyotes 0 Prior Lake led the game 8- 4 in the sixth inning when the game was called after a player illness left Shakopee with only eight players. The game goes into the books as a 9-0 Prior Lake win, though statistics accumulated in the game remain official. Jonny Houston and Jake Lehrer had two hits each, and Lehrer and Nolan Rein both had two RBIs for Prior Lake. Houston pitched six innings for the Mudcats. For Shakopee, Logan Becker and Jeff Hohenstein each had two hitsand an RBI. Logan Becker started for the Coyotes.

Bulldogs 17, Saints 3 Union Hill scored in bunches as they topped St. Benedict 17-3 in seven innings at Don Giesen Field. The Bulldogs scored six in the second, one in the fourth, five in the fifth and five more in the sixth. Derek Masberg earned the win for Union Hill, going six innings, yielding four hits, while striking out seven and allowing one unearned run. Paul Hentges started and took the loss for St. Benedict. Dusty Steinhoff and Bryan Lindner each had three hits for the Bulldogs, with Steinhoff racking up four RBIs.

Orioles 18, Sox 8 The Orioles defeated Webster 18-8 in eight innings. Zach Sirek pitched five innings to earn the win and Aaron Kes pitched the last three innings striking out five. Dan Novak, Jake Klein, Justin Novak and Zack Dubanoski all had multiple hits with Klein driving in three RBIs on the day. For Webster, Brooks Prochaska had two hits and three RBIs. John Barten was the losing pitcher.

Sunday, June 4 Bulldogs 4, Mallards 0 Union Hill jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings in Montgomery, and that was more than enough for Bulldog starter Daniel Feneis. Feneis had a perfect game through 7-2/3 innings before walking Tom Flicek for the first Montgomery base runner. The first hit for the Mallards came in the bottom of the ninth off the bat of Jaron Christensen. Christensen was the starter and took the loss for Montgomery. After a tough start, he settled in nicely throwing 6-1/3 innings and allowing five hits. Conrad Masberg led the Bulldogs with two hits and three RBIs. Feneis had a complete game shutout, allowing two hits while striking out 11.

Saints 15, Warriors 14 The St. Benedict Saints rallied from a 14-7 eighth inning deficit to shock the Veseli Warriors 15-14 Sunday in Veseli. Andrew Huss hit a two-out, two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to give the Saints the win. It was Huss’ second three-run shot of the game. He and Michael Pauly hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning. Pauly had five hits for St. Benedict. Mitchell Martin had four hits and four RBIs, while Huss drove in seven runs in the contest. Veseli scored runs in each of the first six innings. They were led by Matt Perkinson with four hits. Tyler Busch scored four runs for the Warriors. Jeremy Heitkamp got the win in relief. Perkinson took the loss.

Lakers 5, Aces 3 Kyle Murphy had three hits and two RBIs to lead Faribault past Lonsdale 5-3. No other information was available. Irish 6, Sox 0 Zach Seurer threw a twohit shutout, striking out six, as St. Patrick defeated Webster 6-0. Jordan Goracke had three hits for St. Patrick and Seth Ambroz and Derek Hahn had two each. Hahn had three RBIs.

Orioles 13, Mudcats 5 New Prague scored in each of the first six innings and defeated Prior Lake 13-5. at New Prague. Nathan Sprouls pitched seven innings, allowing four runs and six hits to get the win. Ames Bryan pitched the final two innings for New Prague. Aaron Kes and Zack Dubanoski each had three hits and two RBIs and Justin Novak, James Fuerniss, Dan Novak and Eric Wagner each had two hits. Fuerniss had three RBIs. Lucas Pumper, Brad Schoenrock, and Kyle Schmidt all hit doubles for Prior Lake. Ben Morrison started and went six innings, with Ryan White pitching in relief.
