Father Freeman will miss special moments

By Patrick Fisher

I’m sure I’ll miss just being with people at special moments in their lives.

For Father George Freeman, pastor of St. Wenceslaus Church in New Prague, that comment is both what he has enjoyed and what he will miss the most with his retirement, after 40 years of serving the Archdiocese.

Those moments range from the good to the bad. He listed them as the baptisms, the weddings and the funerals. Moments he has been a part of during his 40 years as a priest.

On Wednesday, June 22, the parish of St. Wenceslaus, where he has spent his last eight years, hosted a celebration in honor of him. The event, celebrating his past ministry and his future plans, began with a 5:30 p.m. Mass followed by an open house dinner and entertainment from 7-8:30 p.m.

During his last seven years, Father Freeman said what he’s noticed most is, The loving spirit of the people and families of St. Wenceslaus. They worship together and care for each other.

His tenure at St. Wenceslaus saw the building of the church’s Parish Activity Center, which is the largest building project the church has done in the last 50 years.

I’ve been in this area for about 28 years
