Feuk takes gold at state

Drew Feuk became the first New Prague High School athlete to win a state championship in boys track and field Saturday, claiming the crown in the 110-meter hurdles at the Minnesota State High School League Class AA meet at Hamline University in St. Paul.

Feuk had one of the slower qualifying times on Friday, but turned on the jets in the finals with a time of 14.71, edging Matthew Weeks of Moorhead.

Feuk also tied for eighth in the pole vault on Friday, clearing 13 feet, while teammate Tony Johnson took third in the long jump at 21-11 and eighth in the triple jump at 43-6.

Feuk also competed in the 300 hurdles, where he did not make the finals, and Johnson did not place in either the 200 meters or the high jump. Others competing, but not placing for the Trojan boys, were Adam Michel in the triple jump and Dustin Haeg in the discus.

The boys placed 12th as a team. Rosemount won the AA championship.


Girls track team

The Trojan girls had four of their seven entries place. Danielle Busch had the best showing, placing fourth in the pole vault, clearing 10 feet, 9 inches. Brit Rynda was fifth in the triple jump, leaping 36-3.25, Elly Reinke was sixth in the discus at 124-1 and Rena Kneeland placed ninth in the 300 hurdles in 47.64.

Other Trojans competing but not placing were Jenny Hendricks in the 800 meters, Kristin Carr in the high jump and the 4x400 relay team of Kneeland, Rynda, Makayla Reimers and Taylor Rookaird.

New Prague placed 19th as a team. Eastview won the girls AA championship.
