Filing starts Tuesday for school board

The filing period for three seats on the New Prague Area School Board will begin Tuesday, July 30, and will continue for two weeks, ending Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Candidates can file to be on the ballot for the general election on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Affidavits of Candidacy will be available in the office of the Superintendent from the school district election clerk at 410 Central Ave. N in New Prague. A filing fee of $2 will be charged.

Candidates must be eligible voters, age 21 or older when they assume office. They must also have been a resident of the district for 30 days before the general election.

Affidavits must be filed in the office of the school district clerk and the filing fee paid prior to 5 p.m. closing on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013.

The terms of board members Don Dvorak, Jerry Walerius and Sherry Brooks expire at the end of 2013. Walerius said he does not plan to run for a third term. Dvorak and Brooks both said they have not decided.

Those elected in November will serve four-year terms, through 2017
