Finally, out of the deep freeze

By Bill Bartusek

Mild weather and warm temperatures are finally coming back. Anglers can hit the ice and actually get around and look for fish. During the cold spell, anglers settled into warm fish houses and waited for the fish to come to them. Sometimes that works, but most of the time this is a hit and miss way of fishing.

Anglers like me know you have to move with the fish as they move. Moving food sources, weather and angling pressure all cause fish to move. Now that it's warmer out, anglers will be able to move about and search for these fish without freezing to death. I would certainly think success will improve during the next few days.

Fish that we located last week up north during the Holidays are now willing to bite. Though I didn't go up north, my neighbor did well in the area we located. I hope to get back up to the lake and expand on what we located last week.

If you're not in the mood to hit the ice, you can head for the Sportsman's Show in the Twin Cities this weekend. There you can forget about winter and look forward to the coming year, planning hunting and fishing trips during the next summer. That should definitely give a temporary cure to the cabin fever many Minnesotans have.

During this warm up I'm sure all the winter sports will be more enjoyable, so get out and enjoy while you can!
