Fire claims New Prague woman

A house fire northeast of New Prague claimed the life of a 52-year-old rural New Prague woman Sunday, Feb. 28.

Louise Olga Marie America, died in the one-story home at 1466 E 270th St. in Cedar Lake Township.

The New Prague Fire Department was called to the residence at 3:06 a.m. Sunday. When they arrived, they found the house fully engulfed in flames.

Detective Sergeant Bill Nawrocki of the Scott County Sheriff's Office said a passerby reported the fire. New Prague was assisted by fire departments from Prior Lake and Elko New Market. Firefighters remained on the scene for more than 10 hours.

When the fire was extinguished, firefighters found the woman's body inside the home. No one else was home at the time of the fire.

The sheriff's office and the State Fire Marshall's Office are working together to find the cause of the fire.

A memorial service for Louise America will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 4, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Prior Lake. A complete obituary can be found under obituaries.
