Fire department battles grass fire

The New Prague Fire Department battled a grass fire on the city's north side for three hours Sunday, March 22.

New Prague Fire Chief Jim Becker said the department received the call around 2 p.m. for the fire that started off of English Avenue and spread to a grassy area outside of town to the northwest. Winds were a factor in spreading the fire. The Jordan Fire Department was called in to provide mutual aid. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

There were two other calls for the week. On Friday, March 20, a call came in around noon for a residence on Lady Slipper Avenue. A resident reported smelling something electrical burning. Firefighters were on the scene for 15 minutes, but found nothing.

On Saturday, March 21, at 8:45 p.m. the department was called to the scene of a three vehicle crash near Holiday gas station. Firefighters cleaned up gas that was leaking from one of the vehicles. The department was on site for one hour.

The New Prague Police Department reported there were only minor injuries in the crash.
