Floor hockey returns to state tourney

The New Prague High School adapted floor hockey team made a big splash in their game against the Wayzata/Minnetonka Lakers, taking a 6-0 lead in the first period on their way to an 11-2 win in a state play-in game Wednesday, March 9.

The Trojans are headed to the State CI Tournament for the second straight year. They will open the tournament Friday, March 18, at Bloomington Jefferson High School, where they will play Maple Grove.

Complete first round pairings are:

5 p.m. - Anoka Hennepin vs. Burnsville/Farmington/Lakeville (Gym C)

6:30 p.m. - Owatonna vs. St. Cloud (Gym C)

8 p.m. - Maple Grove vs. New Prague (Gym B)

8 p.m. - Dakota United at Mounds View (Gym A)

If New Prague wins their first round game, they would play at noon Saturday in Gym B in the semifinals. If they lose their first round game, they would play in the consolation semifinals at 10:30 a.m. in Gym C.

Consolation finals are scheduled for 1:45 p.m. in Gym C. The third place game will be at 3:30 p.m. in Gym B, while the championship game will be at 4 p.m. in Gym A.

Trojans 11, Lakers 2

New Prague had four goals and two assists from Matthew Schoenbauer, three goals and an assist from Alex Palma, two goals from Brandon Taylor, one goal each from Jacob Malecha and Philip Weber and one assist each from Kayla Doran and Stephanie Hayden.

Marcus Schoenbauer was strong in goal, making 34 saves as New Prague outshot the Lakers 54-36
