Floor hockey team finishes unbeaten season

The New Prague/Tri-City United/Le Sueur-Henderson Trojan adapted floor hockey team closed out its regular season with a 16-4 win over St. Paul Highland Park on Wednesday, Feb. 27.

The Trojans finished the season unbeaten with a 10-0 record and are the No. 1 seed in the south for the post-season. They were scheduled to face Wayzata/Minnetonka, the No. 8 seed from the north, at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 6, with a berth in the state tournament on the line. That game was played after this edition of The Times went to press.

New Prague manhandled the Scots, scoring 13 goals in the first period.

Matthew Schoenbauer had eight of those first period goals, along with an assist, and Alex Palma had five goals. Jacob Malecha had two assists and Brooklyn Skluzacek, Zack Crawford and Eva Johnson had one each.

Palma got the only Trojan goal in the second period, while Highland Park had two. Schoenbaer and Malecha scored goals in the third, with Johnson getting an assist. Highland Park added two more.

Charlie Zellinger had 20 saves for New Prague, who outshot Highand 48-24.

Prior to the game, senior defender Cassie Malecha and student manager Tanner Bisek were honored on Senior Night.
