Four file in Scott County District 1

After one week of the filing period for the November election, only a handful of contests have arisen in area races. The race that has generated the most interest is Scott County’s First District, where four candidates have filed an affidavit of candidacy.

The filing period ends on Tuesday, July 18.


Le Sueur County

In Le Sueur County, no one had filed for any of the county offices that will be on this fall’s ballot.


Scott County

In Scott County four candidates have filed for the District 1 seat that represents the western portion of the county, including the cities of Jordan, Belle Plaine and New Prague. Candidates are Dale Alice Kroc, Ralph T. Malz, Joe Thill and incumbent Joe Wagner. Malz is from Blakeley Township, Thill and Wagner are from Jordan and Kroc, who did not list an address, did list a Jordan phone number.

In District 3, which is largely based in Shakopee, incumbent Jerry Hennen is being challenged by Todd A. Anderson.

Jon Ulrich, District 5 Commissioner from Savage, was the only one to file as of Tuesday.

Kevin Studnicka of Belle Plaine is the only person to file for Scott County Sheriff, to succeed David Menden, who is not running for reelection.

County Attorney Pat Ciliberto of Shakopee has filed for reelection, and as of press time was unopposed.

Two Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioner candidates have filed so far. They are James Fitzsimmons of District 4 and Jim Schwingler of District 5.


Rice County

Only one candidate had filed as of press time for Rice County Commissioner. That is Steven Bauer of Faribault in District 4.

County Auditor Fran Windschitl of Northfield has filed for reelection, as has County Recorder Marsha Helen DeGroot of Dundas and County Attorney G. Paul Beaumaster of Faribault. All are unopposed. Sheriff Richard Cook of Faribault has also filed for reelection, and is being opposed by Mark Murphy of Northfield.

Soil and Water Conservation District Candidates that have filed are Wallace Hildebrandt of Kenyon in District 3 and Robert P. Borchert of Faribault in District 5.


House of Representatives

State House candidates in the area include:

District 25A: Laura Brod (R-New Prague), incumbent

District 25B: David Bly (DFL-Northfield)

District 35B: Taylor Kristoffe-Jones (DFL-Savage)


State Senate

State Senate candidates in the area include:

District 25: Thomas Neuville (R-Northfield), incumbent

District 35: Claire Robling (R-Jordan), incumbent
