Four Trojans involved in wrestle backs - UPDATED
All four Trojan wrestlers at the State Class AA individual tournament have advanced to the second day of the tournament after winning wrestlebacks Friday evening at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul.
At 120 pounds, Griffin Parriott took a 1-0 decision over Jayden Bullerman of Adrian to advance to the quarterfinals, then lost to Tyler Funk of Adrian 3-2 in the quarterfinals. Parriott defeated Ryan Erdmann of Kasson-Mantorville 4-2 in overtime in the wrestlebacks. On Saturday Parriott (40-6) will face Zach Spychalla of Simley (28-13)
At 126 pounds, James Berg lost 11-6 to No. 1-ranked Nathan Thomas of Kasson-Mantorville in the first round. In the wrestlebacks he defeated Tone Fuenffinger of Hibbing 8-2. Berg (32-12) will face Tristan Manderfeld of Foley (33-4) in his next match.
At 152 pounds, Morgan Parriott defeated Reed Gmahl of Mora 5-4 to advance to the quarterfinals, then lost to Nathanael Holecek of Thief River Falls/Goodridge 3-1. He beat Matthew Slater of Adrian 1-0 in the wrestlebacks. Parriott (38-9) will face Walker Thiele of Totino-Grace (32-13) on Saturday.
At 220 pounds, Nathan Preston lost to JD Struxness to Dawson-Boyd/Lac qui Parle Valley 7-1. Struxness pinned his second-round opponent, putting Preston in the wrestlebacks. Preston defeated Jack Ryan of Simley 7-2 in the wrestlebacks. Preston (36-7) will face Max Koping of LItchfield (30-10) on Saturday.
Wrestlebacks begin at 10 a.m. Saturday. Winners will get two more matches, including a third or fifth place match on Saturday evening.
