Francis Stauff, 78

Francis D. Frank Stauff, 78, of New Prague, died Thursday, May 21, 2009, at The Lodge in Elko New Market, after a long battle with cancer. 

Frank, the son of Frank F. and Caroline (Welckle) Stauff, was born on August 11, 1930, in New Prague.  He attended country school in Lexington Township and graduated from McKinley High School in Le Center in 1948. He then worked for three months on the family farm before enlisting in the U.S. Army, where he served from September 10, 1948, until September 9, 1951, during the Korean War. Upon his return from service, Frank again helped out on the family farm and in June of 1952 began working for IBM. He married Betty Gosewisch in Lanesburg on January 17, 1953. Frank's position as an Area Technical Support Manager for IBM took them many places, including the Twin Cities, Iowa, Rochester, Green Bay and Venezuela. He retired in 1986 and they moved to New Prague. He was a member of the American Legion in Le Center, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and people. He will be remembered by his grandchildren for the important life lessons that he taught them while sitting on his knee.

He is survived by his wife; sons Curtis (Bonnie), Rochester and Gordon, Savage; grandchildren Trina, Janelle and Frank; and a brother, Richard (Betty), Renton, WA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Kirk, John and George.

Funeral services were held at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Le Center on Tuesday, May 26, at 11 a.m. 

Burial was at Woodlawn Cemetery in Le Center, with military honors provided by the Le Center Area Veteran's Honor Guard. 

Visitation was held at Le Center Funeral Home on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m., and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday.
