Francis Wermerskirchen, 88

Francis J. Wermerskirchen, 88, of Jordan, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2006, at The Lutheran Home in Belle Plaine.

Born February 25, 1918, at Jordan, Francis was a son of Ernest J. and Anna (Beckius) Wermerskirchen. He grew up on the family farm. On June 19, 1945, he married Lorraine (Huss) Wermerskirchen at St. John's Catholic Church in Union Hill. Francis was a dairy farmer. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing and hunting and traveled to many parts of the United States, including Hawaii. He also visited Germany. Francis raised Saddle horses and also raised and sold rat terrier dogs. He was a Third Degree Knights of Columbus member and was very active with his church which he attended regularly. He was also a CAA member and belonged to the Jordan Senior Citizens Club. Francis was a member of the former Jordan Drum and Bugle Corp.

Francis is survived by his wife; sisters Vera Deutsch of NewPrague and Rita Olesen of Eugene, OR; sisters-in-law Peggy Wermerskirchen of New Prague and Doris Wermerskirchen of Shakopee; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Alfred, Leander (Delores) and Ernest P. Wermerskirchen; sister-in-law Florence Wermerskirchen; and brothers-in-law Edwin Deutsch and Ray Olesen.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 9, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in Jordan, with Father Timothy Yanta officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment was at Calvary Cemetery in Jordan. Pallbearers were Glen Deutsch, John Wermerskirchen, Mark Huss, David Huss, Ronald Pitschnieder, Randy McWilliams, Ronald Wermerskirchen and Rick Stocker.

Visitation was held on Friday, Dec. 8, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Ballard-Sunder Funeral Home, Jordan, and also one hour prior to the service at the church.
