Francis Zahratka, 87
Francis Fink Zahratka, 87, of Montgomery, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2007, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Born January 14, 1920, in Wheatland Township, Rice County, Fink was a son of Frank and Anna (Nerud) Zahratka. He graduated from Sherman High School in Montgomery and married Marie A. Lambrecht on November 19, 1941, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in New Prague. He worked for Minnesota Valley Canning Company/Green Giant Company from age 18 until retiring in 1982. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Montgomery American Legion Post #79. Fink enjoyed nature, hunting, fishing and card playing.
He is survived by children Mike (Paula) Zahratka, Montgomery, Ann Marie (Rich) Asbury, Blaine, Diane Zahratka, Blaine, Becky (Gary) Jensen, Albert Lea, Berna (Paul) Kline, Montgomery and Sue (Glenn) Connolly, Montgomery; a sister Marcy Hoffman, Victoria; sister-in-law Lucille Holec, Bloomington; 23 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife who died in 1989; his parents; and brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 10:30 a.m. at Most Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Montgomery, with Rev. David Barrett officiating and military honors provided by the Montgomery Area Veterans Honor Guard.
Burial was at St. John Catholic Cemetery in Montgomery. Pallbearer's were Fink's grandchildren.
Visitation was held Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday one hour prior to the service at the Schoenbauer Funeral Home in Montgomery.
