Friday's Trojan Results

New Prague's boys and girls basketball teams both defeated Farmington Friday evening.

The boys team broke open a tight game late in the second half for a 73-64 win at New Prague. Danny Geiger had 27 points, going 12 of 14 from the free throw line, Jed Kresuer had 18, going 6-of-7 from three-point range, and Cale Girten had 14.

New Prague (15-9, 7-5 Missota) will host Holy Angels Tuesday, Mar. 2.

The girls team had an easier time of it in their regular season finale, winning 64-38 at Farmington. Hannah Strop led New Prague with 24 points, while Maggie Weiers added 18.

The Trojans (17-9) finished tied for third with Red Wing in the Missota Conference with a 9-5 record. The Trojans received the No. 1 seed in Section 1AAA and will host Austin (5-18) in the first round at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Mar. 3. Other first round games have No. 7 Albert Lea at No. 2 Red Wing, No. 6 Waseca at No. 3 Faribault and No. 5 Simley at No. 4 Winona.

Five New Prague athletes advanced to the semifinals in the Section 2AA wrestling meet Friday at Delano. They are Trevor Westerlund (103 pounds), Morgan Parriott (125), Kody Dolezal (140), Jay Reinke (215) and Brandon Svoboda (285). Six others are still alive in the wrestlebacks: Natalie Rutt (112), Dakota Cole (130), Alex Mueller (152), Luke Ritter (160), Nathan Preston (171) and Tim Haas (189). Three Trojans lost two matches and were eliminated. They were Jordan Johnson (119) Josh Stocker (135) and Nathan Olson (145).

Wrestling continues Saturday at Delano High School, starting at 11 a.m.
